- I have not yet heard of this little box, but just the other day I was in the
- waiting room of my auto dealer (repairs, of course) and happened to pick up a
- copy of TIME (didn't look at the month), which had a small article talking
- about the clones and Macs all racing for such a stand-alone Internet box. It
- seems to be the next niche if it goes well, but they are all keeping it at a
- $500 lid. The article said that in order to do that they will have no disk
- drives (but probably a CD-ROM with the Net software onboard), a keyboard, some
- memory, a modem, a PowerPC or other RISC cpu, and the ability to hook up to a
- tv. Now, this may sound like a lot, but it's still a far cry from today's
- multimedia-ready $1500-$2200 PC's and MACs, and for just ~$800, AT's Amiga 1200
- Surfer package will have all that plus hard drive and expandability. I guess
- you can do either with your money: spend a little and get a dumb terminal JUST
- for browsing the net (fine if that suits all your needs), or spend a little
- more and get a whole dedicated computer that can grow with your needs. Just my
- 2 bits. Thanks for the ear.
